Vendor: Bad Dragon
Most cultures know the rite of spring cleaning. After the dark and often due to the weather dirtier times of winter, the house gets cleaned, broken things repaired, old things looked at if they need replacement. This year, I am doing a different kind of spring housekeeping: I am reviewing four “old” Bad Dragon models which have been sitting in my playroom for quite some time.
In order to keep their product range clear, Bad Dragon retires a toy after a couple of years when they introduce new ones. Once or twice a year they release drops of so called legacy toys, so you have a chance to snatch on olden but golden toy. Last year, they added a Legacy section to their website where you can browse and buy all their more or less traditional toys. So let’s look at four older and newer toys to see how they reflect Bad Dragon’s development as a toy company.
Construction
Right from the start, Bad Dragon used silicone as their material of choice for their toys. This was mainly due to manufacturing reasons. The casting molds or complete toys themselves could me sculptured by hand. This way many different small batch designs could be casted. Of course, hand sculptured molds are hard to scale (proportionally). So most of their really old, pre-CAD shaped toys are one size only.
Unlike PVC or rubber, silicone is also a material that can be cured in small batches. So it was the ideal material for a small start-up company which did not make thousands of toys in the beginning. Started by members of the furry fandom, silicone’s material properties was necessary to kick off the fantasy anthro trend. Unlike the other materials it can recreated very detailed textured and complex shapes. It comes in extremely wide range of firmness degrees so from a gently massaging texture to an almost unforgiving tugging knot, all is possible. Nowadays Bad Dragon offers four firmnesses which are Extra-Soft (Shore 00-30), Soft (Shore A2), Medium (Shore A5) and Firm (Shore A8 which I would consider a still a medium firmness). The larger a toy, the firmer it will feel because there is more mass to compress. Harder firmnesses will also make texture feel more rugged. Spikes the massage in soft firmness can actually start to feel scratchy (but will never actually scratch because the material is too soft). It will also make the toy harder to take because the more complex and rigid the surface, the harder it will be for the hole to relax and open up. If you want to ride your toy, choosing a firm base with a differently firm shaft is always a good idea because it will give the toy a better stand.
Coloring is also an important part of the immersion. Getting a toys colored in the way the imagined fursona’s ref sheet helps getting into the headspace. Silicone easily takes on color pigments and can display even the most delicate shades, fades and patterns, even using effect particles like glitter, metal, glow in the dark or UV reactive ones. Over the years, Bad Dragon mastered the art of coloring and has become the industry benchmark. In order to help you decide on your preferred color, Bad Dragon was the first toy company to offer a configuration tool on their website with a real-size option to see how you dream toy might look. While the coloring configurator gives you a good impression of what you will get, from my personal experience, the sizing tool should be used with a grain of salt though. I have been ordering toys from their website for 10 years now this summer and despite a good imagination how big a toy will be and despite the sizing tool, I sometimes end up with toys which are way larger than expected or considerably smaller.
Quiet early from the start, Bad Dragon did also offer two customizations. The most important is probably the suction cup. With this add-on a deep cup is molded into the base which creates a vacuum when being pressed against a smooth surface. This gives the toy a firm stand on the floor or allows you to attach it to a tiled wall to back onto it doggy style – just in case you are feeling knotty. The other added functionality which has been offered by Bad Dragon almost right from the start is the cum tube. It is a silicone tube which runs through the shaft until the tip of the head. At the bottom is syringe is attached which can be filled with cum lube to shoot into your rectum. Especially with large toys you need large quantities of lube to full the tube with lube before it shoots into your body. For this short-lived effect the cleaning effort increases massively. I have tried the effect several times and it was not worth the effect, increased cleaning effort and more difficult handling (the cum tube and syringe is permanently attached to the toy and dangles around). But after every Bad Dragon review I publish, I get several messages by people who are in love with their cum shooting toy. So before you choose one, I recommend trying it out with a friend’s toys if the added sensation is worth everything it entails. Or buy a Lil’Squirt from Bad Dragon as a try out toy.
If you choose to get a cum tube, you must only use it with water-based lube! The silicone oil in silicone lube disintegrates silicone. First it gets sticky and then solvates the toy. So stick to water or oil-based lube. This is a good segway into the material properties of platinum silicone.
For stuffing toys into your rectum, a body part lined with a mucosa which is very absorbent, platinum silicone toys have become the gold standard. Unlike PVC and rubber toy which can emit dangerous plasticizers, silicone toys are 100% body safe. Because of this, you must not store your silicone toys together with toys made from other materials since even the plasticizer fumes can damage silicone. Generally speaking, I recommend storing silicone toys upright in a ventilated space. Especially very soft silicone can easily get dents or creases. Silicone toys are also easy to clean. Simply throw them in warm soap water, let it soak, rinse the soap off, spray sanitizer on them and you are got to use them again. This makes them perfect for group settings where multiple holes await stuffing. The supermsooth surface of silicone not only makes them glide in more easily but also makes it much harder to bacteria to linger.
Playing Varka
Just by looking at the shape and texture, you can tell that Varka is the oldest of the four toys. Being sculptured by hand, it lacks the detailed micro-texture that Bad Dragon is now famous for. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. Varka feels a bit like a Square Peg toy. Shaped by the hand of anal aficionado, it is more designed to hit the right spots HARD instead of recreating the look and feel a perverted mind has dreamt off.
Varka starts out with a very pointy oval tip, taking inspiration from the protruding urethra of canine dicks. From there thick skeins flow into a dullish glans section with a bulging glans rim. The thick shaft is texture with the same lateral skeins. Two thirds down the toy, a massive knot grows out of the shaft with a whopping shaft-to-knot ratio of 1:1.5! The entire knot is rugged with lateral skeins & ridges and bulges. At the bottom it very steeply and quickly tapers back to a relatively long neck that is only slight thicker than the shaft. Like all parts of this toy, this section is also textured with skeins. The entire toy is sitting on a flat, round base, large enough to not accidentally taking the toy whole.
Like I said, Varka was sculpture by someone who knew anal anatomy and how a toy must be shaped like to hit the right spots. The small tips is perfect for anchoring the toy inside the anus. Yet due to the steep slopes leading to a dullish glans, it is not a beginner’s top. There is no gradually opening up but is forcefully demanding access into the anus. When relaxed, the varied textured on top of the glans can stimulate the many nerve endings inside the spincter, especially when twisting and turning, trying to coerce it to open up. For experienced player, this can be tantalizingly horny. But for novices, the textured will make their sphincter clench. Especially on the sides, the glans is bulging over the shaft. In skilled hands, this can be used to apply pressure onto the prostate.
The textured shaft is best experienced in the hands of a top. When twisting inside the hole, the deep texture is very stimulating. When riding, you can feel it a bit but you have to focus on it more since the texture is only lateral.
Bascially the same applies for the knotting. Being so heavily textured, taking the knot is more difficult than smooth bulging knots on anatomically correct K9 toys. When pressing down on your own, you can slowly feel bulges and ridges slipping through your anus, gradually increasing the feeling of fullness and pressure. Due to the deep texture, it is almost impossible to twist the toy inside the anus. Turning it inside the rectum is a completely different thing! The prostate and sensitive mucosa will be heavily stimulated, much like fingers moving inside the ass. Since the neck is also textured and since the shaft will most likely be locked inside the second spincter, this can lead to a stimulation overload. Beware when pushing or pulling the knot out! Since it is so dull at the bottom, it can really lock inside the anus! The deknotting is intense and some testees experienced intense prostate stimulation because of the knot’s pressure.
Overall, Varka is definitively not for novices, but in regards of taking the toy and processing the stimulations. Especially since it is more sculptural than fantasy designed, it is a very intense toy that can push all the right buttons – especially when you can lay back & relax and let skilled hands handle the toy.
Playing with Breeder
Just due to the name, I have gotten many review requests for this legacy toy. And what color could I choose but his signature with the white color dripping over the slightly glittering black shaft resting on an almost screaming red base?
Unlike Varka, Breeder is a good beginner’s toy for those who want to take the next step. While the glans is flat and wide, it has a nice steep cone shape. So taking it perpendicularly should be easy. If you have a partner to train with, let him twist the tip inside your anus for gradually opening it up.
Starting with the glans, the entire shaft is a stack of three wide swellings that bulge at the apex. It has an s-shape, with the glans strongly curving forward. When riding the toy firmly sitting on the floor, this shape creates pressure against the anus and prostate. It is not so intense that you cannot comfortably take the toy but enough for the small bumps texturing the ventral groove and the ridges marking the apex of the swelling being very noticeable.
Below the shaft sits a thick knot which only slightly bulges to the side but massively backwards. The two spheres taper steeply for easy taking the knot. There is also a small recess in the middle between them so they can be compressed a bit. The bottom of the knot is also quite dull so it first locks tightly and deknotting is a challenge. The neck is short but long enough for the sphincter to close and rest comfortably around it.
The base is elongated and relatively thin. Thus being flexible, the vacuum of the suction cup is quite strong. Also, it is shaped like the pouch most dragon furries apparently believe the pouch the dick is stored inside a wyrm’s body looks like.
Like most toys, Breeder is the most fun in the hands of a skilled operator. The s-curve is something I have never seen so extremely articulated on another anal toy. So turning the toy inside someone an lead to interesting and unique effects and feelings. When riding it on your own, it can feel a bit weird. When you are a beginner, you might want to turn the toy 90° so the oval shape of the toy aligns with the slit shape of your anus for easier taking. Depending on your anatomy, doing so will either guide the glans towads your second hole or encourage the toy to curl up inside your rectum. The feeling it hard to describe and quite unique. If you have a sweet spot for particular feeling toys, give Breeder a change. Especially since it is also available in smaller sizes too!
Playing with Glyph
When I first got Glyph into my hands, my initial reaction was “Training toy for really double fistees who want to train depth.” This first impression was quickly validated by my testees.
The toy starts out with a really tiny glans which is slightly textued. A ridged of two horn like spikes from the tip and a cluster of very small bumps around the glans rim. The rim is slightly bulging with a minimal glans drop. Below the glans drop sits a slight bulge around the shaft which converges onto to a lateral groove running down the top of the shaft. Down from the bulge it slightly tapers wider for about one third of the toy length. The sides are very shallowly textured with wave-like ridges.
At the halftway point, suddenly a MASSIVE knot consisting of a cluster of six HUGE bulges stacked on top and next to each other appears. It almost looks comically to have a small, almost frail looking shaft with a glans sitting on top of this almost disproportional, sinuous knot amalgam.
Taking the knot is a bit of a challenge. Since there are so many thick skeins and voluminous bulges creating the knot, there for a complex pattern of steep slopes and dull recesses. So while on side the knot is almost easily slipping in, on the other side a wide and dull section might keep the sphincter from opening up. In theory, the complex yet flowing shape of the knot makes it interesting to turn inside the hole. But in order to enjoy it and relaxes enough for easy turning instead of fighting against the stretch, the anus must be really loose and relaxed.
Since the shaft sits on top of the big knot, it easily bends towards the way of lowest resistance. This leads to my assessment of the toy: While the textured glans might not be the best tool to open up the sensitive second sphincter, the shaft being led by the glans can easily bend to follow the winding paths deeper into the lower intestine. The shaft is not thick or heavily textured, so it can stretch this sensitive body part. At the same time, the ginormous knot can full even the largest of rectums. Doing so can lead to a sensation overload. While the sensitive sigmoid can signal intense stimulations, the anus and rectum will be full of pressure feeling, especially when choosing the XL. So even when you are an ass slut, maybe go for the large instead of the largest available size. While it is a horny toy to take when you are very experienced, it is hard to enjoy it in a relaxed way.
Playing with Echo’s Horn
Sometimes I am surprised how quickly toys get retired and I wondered why. I ordered Echo’s Horn early 2024 and when I got ready to review it some months later, it was already gone from the website. So I put it on the shelf because posting an article about a toy which is not available anymore usually leads to a surge of message asking where you can buy it. So when Bad Dragon introduced their Legacy page, I was happy to find Echo’s Horn there so I can review it.
The shape is rather simple: It is basically a rhino’s horn. So it is a roughly triangular cone bending inwards while increasing in diameter. About one fifth down from the tip the left and right corners are slightly bulging. The entire shaft is textured with wavy perpendicular ridges which get increasingly wider and deeper down the shaft. The base is round and slightly larger than the toy. It is textured with lateral, fur like texture. So if you feel a drastic change of texture inside you anus, you better stop pushing down.
Riding Echo’s Horn is for the texture junkies like me. The consistent massage of the pattern on your sphincter and depending on your anatomy also prostate is almost meditative. While a top can try to project the tips towards specific body parts and try to twist the toy, this is a bit difficult. Even with a deep suction cup, the toy is hard to grip and to turn because the body is so massive and heavy. Most of my testees and I agree, this horn is best enjoyed sitting on a yoga block, you bounding on it while listening to a hypno file or watching a piston fucking porn.
